History

Tri-county News has been in continuous publication since September
25th of 1975. Founded by Strickler (Strick) Pollock of Grove City,
and was named the Slippery Rock News Shopper. The first issue was
laid out and pasted up on the kitchen table at the family homestead
and delivered door to door by Strick's three sons. By 1977 it had
expanded with coverage in three counties, Mercer, Lawrence and
Butler, hence the name Tri-County News. The offices were moved from
the confines of the kitchen table to 118 1/2 Franklin Street in
Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Twenty five years later TCN remains at
the same location.

By the early eighties Strick had started a second publication. Named
Movin' Out, it was a magazine for the trucking industry. Movin' Out
it is now a national publication owned and operated by Strick's
oldest son, Steven, and his wife, Pam Pollock. After graduation from
Art School, Strick's youngest son, Brian, assumed responsibility for
the layout department at TCN. Brian developed the department into a
full graphic's art business of which he and his wife Karen, are now
the sole owners.

With the untimely death of Strick Pollock in 1995 the family members
took over the operation of TCN. Under the stewardship of Rich Wilhelm
TCN continues to grow and expand. TCN has come a long way since those
humble beginnings off the kitchen table but some things never change.
Tri-County News remains a family business.
